Corn Uí Riada is the premier sean nós singing competition at Oireachtas na Gaeilge, an annually held arts festival of Irish culture, It is named in honour of the of the composer and founder of the legendary male
choir Cór Chúil Aodha, Seán Ó Riada.
A compilation of songs from Oireachtas
winners, 1972-2007. Twenty-three singers, each having won Corn Uí Riada, compliment this collection. This double CD
was published in conjunction with RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta. Some of the singers include Nan Ghriallais, Máirtín
Tom Sheáinín Mac Donnacha, Lillis Ó Laoire, Áine Uí Cheallaigh and Celia Uí Bheinéad.

is called Anach Cuan. Anach Cuan is the village of Annaghdown in Co Galway. In 1828 a boat called An Caisleán
Nua (The Newcastle) set off from Annaghdown to a fair in Galway City. There were 31 passangers and 10 sheep on board as well
as other items for sale at the fair. When they got to within 2 miles of their destination, A sheep stamped a hole in
the floor of the rotten boat and it sank in minutes. 19 drowned, 12 survived. This song written by Antaine Ó Raifteirí
recounts the tragedy.
